Cold outbound has a bad reputation because most of it deserves one. But the shape of an email that books meetings hasn't changed in a decade, it's just rare.
What most people send
"Hi {{FirstName}}, I hope this email finds you well! I'm reaching out because we help companies like yours..."
Every gatekeeper's inbox has a hundred of these. They get ignored inside three seconds.
The shape that works
Under 90 words. Three parts.
- A first line that's about them, not you. A trigger event you actually noticed, a launch, a hire, a pricing change.
- The offer in one sentence. Outcome first, mechanics later.
- A specific 15-minute ask. Two named times. Not "next week works for me."
The follow-up
Write the follow-up before you write the first email. It's a 40-word bump, sent 3 business days later, with one new piece of value.
Subject lines
Under 45 characters. Reference the trigger event, not "quick chat." "Saw your pricing tier launch" beats "Introduction."
